I admit it, I forgot. Actually, I didn’t even forget. I was reminded. I was cajoled. I had entire conversations about it, but somehow I just didn’t get the importance.
I forgot Stephanie’s birthday.
I have memorized the birthdays of five people in my life: my mom, my brother, my dog, myself, and, for some reason, my best friend from 6th grade (September 2nd).

One of the really tricky parts of male-female relations is openly sharing your opinions without sounding like a total jerk, a crazed man/women-hater, or a creepy throwback to the 1950s. People hate being classified, so it’s difficult to speak about a gender in general terms. Men don’t want to be told that they are savage or unfeeling because they are men just as women don’t want to hear that they are delicate or emotional because they are women. However, without accepting certain paradigms.
One of our aims here at Stephanie, Save Me is to discuss gender and gender relations in a thoughtful, conscious way that avoids stereotype and dehumanization. However, by trying to write in a way that would never offend anyone we would end up writing ourselves into a very tight corner. It is better then for us to write in a way that is honest to our own understandings of gender as based on our personal experiences.
